Emma Tugby

Background

I have always been interested in sport and physical activity which is the basis of my career. Starting as a lifeguard while at sixth form, I then took my Level 1 and 2 in Swimming Teaching. I then completed a BSC (Hons) degree in Sports Development and Coaching Sciences, from there I went onto be a Swimming Development Manager and then Health & Physical Activity Manager. I became a RLSS tutor assessor and enjoyed this so much I then became a tutor for the STA, then Swim England.

Background

Coming from a family of swimmers and swimming teachers I have always had a passion for swimming, I started out as a club swimmer as a child and young adult before moving into the great outdoors into open water swimming.

I started my career in aquatics as an assistant swimming teacher when I was 16 and still in school then gained my full level 2 qualification as I turned 18. This gives me over 20 years experience in teaching everyone from the babies to adults, club swimmers, waterpolo, water safety, open water & triathlon skills, mermaid school and developing experienced teachers.

Within aquatics I have also held the role of Swimming development manager, regional swim manager and national swim manager so really love getting involved with developing swim programmes to maximise opportunities for swimming lessons within centres.

Background

For as long as I can remember I`ve always loved swimming and anything to do with aquatics. It was in a fun capacity as I was never coached , instead  taking the route of gymnastics and competing for my borough whilst training at Lady well Gymnastics Club.

It was after a long stint in a very boring job that I got the calling to go back to swimming, at first  during my lunch hour at a local pool then decided it was a good way to leave behind a sedentary occupation and lifestyle.

I started as a lifeguard in my late twenties then went on to do my assistant and  level 2 teacher courses. I have over 27 years of experience teaching from the grass roots with parent and baby classes through to adults, schools, including behavioural and disabled establishments.

I felt the next natural step in my journey was to become a tutor as I loved mentoring new teachers.

Background

I started out somewhere completely different to swimming, I was a Catering manager. Then one day I was kidnapped from behind the coffee counter and told that I was going to be a swimming teacher!

I will not name my kidnapper but she is also on this page!

On this whirlwind I also became a lifeguard, parent and baby teacher, disability specialist teacher and a Regional Swim Manager in both the public and private sectors.
